Inspired by Don Linton and Kate McDermott’s book “From the Brink to Brilliant”, the FILM Documentary “Boomtown” artfully brings to life the period between 1940 and current day—weaving together archival footage and photography with original recreations and reenactments using professional actors and models. The story is based largely on seminal moments, scenes and characters as portrayed in the book.
“Boomtown” is a hip and historically accurate 2-part Indie Film and represents the first in a 2-part series. Part one is set predominantly in the 1970’s during the boom times in the newspaper industry—using some flashbacks and flash forwards—A young newspaper photographer who was recently hired by the local paper is assigned to cover the actions of a certain group of rebels that are stirring things up in Downtown Frederick. Part two is set mostly in current day and is centered around the transformative nature of art and creativity and the roll those forces have had on changing the community.
